Take time-out to think and let the sunshine in!
It can be tough today in business in the UK at anytime. And it’s perhaps got even tougher with the likely triple whammy of the pandemic, possible recession and looming Brexit.
Your ability to spin the plates of motivating people, managing suppliers, chasing cash, ring-fencing customers, finding new customers and markets, products and services and a myriad of other things can take your toll on you.
Grey hair can appear faster, energy dwindle quicker and your tolerance and temper can quicken. Many leaders have told me that they think the world is against them. Perhaps your former “trusted advisor” can no longer be trusted to advise? People are planning to leave and it is even lonelier at the top. You may even feel you have been deserted.
However, your situation could be down to you.
Perhaps, in the past, you haven’t given yourself and your business enough thinking time. Hey, when everything is going well why do I need to waste time thinking is often the comment I hear.
The thing is effective leaders are constantly thinking about how they can improve their business. They are constantly considering “what if” scenarios. They are constantly looking for the plus side.
My mantra has always been “no problems only opportunities” and the situation we all find ourselves in at the moment is a good time to apply that mantra.
At BizVision we’ve applied it in a number of ways, principally through using our pivot strategy which is now starting to bring us a number of profitable new clients EACH WEEK.
We’ve heightened our visibility using our online skills and launched a new Meet The Leader channel as part of our BV-TV offering on our bizvision.co.uk hub. We’ve gone overseas (virtually) for new clients, changed our structure, upped our project management capability and launched new brands – all done during lockdown time! Thinking works and applying a mantra is effective.
So what about you and your future?
Some leaders will give up and close which is truly sad. They don’t see how they can bounce-back. They haven’t taken the time to think.
Some will aim to merely survive but the result is likely to be that their business will be a shadow of its former self. I know because I have delivered my Tough Times coaching for many years through many troubling times and watched as some leaders make half-hearted, low commitement survival attempts.
Some, and I hope this is you, will be keen to not only bounce-back but bounce ahead. You believe that the sun will shine tomorrow and you’ll want to catch all the rays you can. You will be energizing your team, creating a bounce-ahead strategy and communicating it to all and letting the bright light into your business. You may, like we have done, want to pivot your business and know how to do it.
