It’s happening! Spring has sprung, the garden is awakening, sport is re-starting, the UK-vaccination is going apace- oh and yes the pubs will soon be part-open! And businesses are starting to come out of hibernation and think of things like bounce-back and recovery.
There’s a BUT here and it’s a BIG one! The conversation seems to be all about getting back to “normal”. I suggest that’s NOT the way to think. If you simply aim to go back to the way things were, you’ll lose out. You’ll lose out on where you should have been and lose out on the many valuable and hard-learned lessons we’ve all experienced this year.
Too many people are advocating that businesses “need to start from scratch” again. That, in my mind, is silly advice. You don’t need to start again you need to BUILD on what you have learned this last year and BUILD upon what you achieved before the pandemic. That way you are not starting from the start-line, you are already some way around the track.
This Easter I’d like you to get thinking about the POWER of Re-.
Re- is the start of many words that are inspirational at the moment. Such as recovery, revive, rebound, recapture, re-invigorate, re-double, re-establish, re-deploy and many more.
If you think carefully these are words that are NOT advocating starting again – they are saying rebuild from where you are.
It’s time to appraise where you are, where you have come from, what got you to where you were, what you achieved, where it is relevant today and where you need to re-position to meet the new needs of customers in this altered world.
You don’t have to start again. Take ourselves at BizVision. For umpteen years I’ve travelled the world speaking, coaching & training. All that stopped early 2020. It stopped dead overnight! So Kim and I had to do some serious thinking.
By thinking of The Power of Re-, and the process above, we arrived at the fact that we had a huge bank of learning in audio-visual format, especially learning managing through tough times. And that new platforms and media and remote working customers still needed to improve performance, productivity and capability. And they needed content.
So our answer was simply to Re-purpose our content to meet these new needs. It’s a strategy I’ve taught others to use – you just have to have the desire to re-energize. Drop me an email to mg@bizvision.co.uk if you want to chat this through further to stimulate your Revival, or will it be Recovery, or Rebound! Happy Easter thinking!
